Wedding blow for soccer ace

He may be a footballing 'galactico' with the world at his feet - but even Ronaldo could not stop his dream wedding being kicked into touch.

Everything seemed to be in place for the perfect Valentine's Day match between the 28-year-old Brazilian star and model Daniella Cicarelli, 27.

The fairy tale grounds of the 17th century Chantilly Chateau, near Paris, had been booked.

The 250-strong guest list included Real Madrid teammate David Beckham and wife Victoria, Formula One ace Michael Schumacher and Brazilian minister of culture Gilberto Gil.

The wedding outfits for the £500,000 ceremony had been commissioned from the Italian designer Valentino.

British DJ Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, had been drafted in to do the music. Aplane had even been hired to jet team-mates over after their game last night against Ossasuna.

But council officials now claim the couple have failed to give the required three months' notice and publicise their wedding banns in time.

A devastated Miss Cicarelli was reported to have become violently emotional and smashed her mobile phone at the news.

But the council was unmoved by the groom's celebrity status. 'This isn't Las Vegas,' it said. 'No paperwork has been deposited with the town hall. The first we knew of their wedding was through the newspapers.' It is the latest blow to the couple's plans. Ronaldo hoped the Vatican would annul his first marriage to Milene Dominguez so he could marry Miss Cicarelli in church but Catholic officials refused.

They were granted a divorce under Spanish law but then it emerged that Daniella had also been married before, to a Brazilian businessman.

But all is not lost, according to the council. 'They can have an engagement party,' it said.
