Ulrika splits from 'Mr Right'

Cynics said it would never last. And last night their words appeared prophetic as Ulrika Jonsson announced the end of her marriage to her 'Mr Right' after just two years.

The television presenter was said to be 'devastated' after Lance Gerrard-Wright moved out of their home.

The speed of the break-up, 18 months after the birth of their daughter Martha, fuelled the rumour mill. But Miss Jonsson's agent insisted: 'There is no one else involved.'

Miss Jonsson announced the news with a statement saying: 'We tried our best to make it work but we are now resigned to the fact that we should part.

'It's a very sad situation not least for our children and they are our first concern.

'Lance and I will do everything to ensure their happiness.' Miss Jonsson, 38, also has an 11-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter from previous relationships.

Mr Gerrard-Wright was believed to be staying with friends after moving out of the couple's home in Cookham Dean, Berkshire. His father, Major General Richard Gerrard-Wright, said: 'I've nothing to tell you.'

The couple's problems are thought to have contributed to Miss Jonsson's loss of more than four stone recently. She admitted last month that she had shed too much weight after becoming addicted to exercise.

The relationship had been given little chance by showbusiness observers or by Miss Jonsson's friends, who did not believe the pair were suited.

While the fiercely ambitious presenter has always worked hard on her career and enjoyed the high life that goes with it, Mr Gerrard-Wright, 37, flitted from job to job and showed little interest in money.

A former equerry to Prince Andrew, he failed to secure his own career in showbusiness and is now training to become a 'life coach'. 'When they met, Ulrika thought Lance was this macho and ambitious man who could look after her and her children,' said a source close to Miss Jonsson. 'But, in fact, she has always been the breadwinner and he is more like a lost little boy.'
