Determined to prove that Brazil has a good deal more going on than soccer, sun and samba, the programme is playful, provocative and showcases artists from both the mainstream and the avant-garde. First up is Alex Gama (today until April 27), whose woodcuts (Trama XXX III) have made him one of Brazil's foremost printmakers, while in May, the Whitechapel gallery, also participating in this event, exhibits the installation work of Hélio Oiticica and his Quasi-Cinemas, in which visitors will swing in hammocks while taking in the film images projected on the walls, floors and ceiling.
