Travolta: I'll tell Diana secrets

She was the prospective future Queen of England; he was the Hollywood star. Now John Travolta is set to reveal the truth behind his brief but intense friendship with Princess Diana. He is writing an autobiography, which will include his memories of Diana, with whom he once danced at the White House.

Speaking at the European premiere of his new film Be Cool at the Empire, Leicester Square, Travolta said: "I'm writing my book. If I wait any longer, it'll be two memoirs and I can't do that. I guess for readers in England the most interesting thing is going to be the stuff about Princess Diana."

He refused to disclose any more details but added: "It will include a lot of things I've never discussed with anybody."

The Saturday Night Fever star, now 51, was introduced to the princess in 1985 at a party hosted by President Ronald Reagan. Nancy Reagan told Travolta that Diana was longing to dance with him.

Travolta has since said: "I was at the lowest point of my career and yet in that room I felt like a frog who had been turned into a prince. I timidly crept over and said, 'Excuse me, princess, would you care to dance?' And she dipped her head and looked up at me and she blushed. Then she said, 'I would love to'.

"As they started playing songs from my movies they all left the floor. We were dancing alone. I said, 'God, we're in the middle of the floor with the whole world watching!' We had the time of our lives."

Travolta, who has since married actress Kelly Preston, was reunited at the premiere with another former dance partner, his Pulp Fiction co-star Uma Thurman. The 34-year-old actress, who also stars in Be Cool, the sequel to Get Shorty, said: "He's the best dance partner. The nicest thing about being in the film was being together again."
