She has a something of a track record when it comes to embarrassing her partner.

But Nancy Dell'Olio's latest revelations about her personal life with Sven Goran Eriksson must have hit truly below the belt.

The fiery Italian lawyer said the England manager had banned his players from spending the night with their partners the night before a match. But when asked if the same applied to him, she said it was 'different for the manager'.

Miss Dell'Olio, who has repeatedly been cheated on by Eriksson, also gave further excruciating details about her sex life with the Swede in an apparent attempt to show just how much in love they really are.

She made her comments in an appearance on Gordon Ramsay's F Word programme, which will be shown on Channel 4 on Thursday night.

The 43-year-old, who has often spoken of her hopes that Eriksson will one day propose to her, told Ramsay that she wanted him to change the pre-match sleeping arrangements.

When the chef asked her: 'He's banned the players from a little bit of nookie the night before, so it must be the same for you?' she replied: 'Well, it's different for players and the manager.'

Miss Dell'Olio also said she thought the sexiest room in the house is the kitchen - 'because the other places are too easy!'

A source close to Eriksson said the 57-year-old was likely to be furious at the comments.

'Sven has sanctioned Nancy pursuing a showbusiness career but the one thing she was not supposed to talk about was his position as manager,' said the source.

'This is embarrassing for him and the players, and the discussion about where she and Sven have sex just make it even more excruciating.'

Eriksson and the England team have never revealed before that a sex ban was in place before a game.

A spokesman for the Football Association said: 'There is no formal position on this but players do not see their wives or girlfriends in the build-up to any game.'

The issue of whether sex before a game saps a player's strength is one of the longest-running debates in football. At the World Cup in Japan two years ago the England wives did not see their husbands at all until after the team was knocked out of the competition.
