Talk of the week

Rachel Cusk, A. L. Kennedy, Hari Kunzru, David Mitchell and Andrew O'Hagan are five of the 20 'young' - well, under the age of 40 - authors whose writing has been selected to appear in the prestigious new Granta anthology, authors whose literary stars are in the ascendant. They will read from their novels and talk afterwards about the anthology and the state of contemporary British fiction.

Rachel Cusk's new novel, The Lucky Ones, is a collection of tenuously connected tales about the practical and emotional restrictions of parenthood. A.L. Kennedy's short stories Indelible Acts revolve around themes of intimacy and longing, Hari Kunzru's The Impressionist is the story of a half-caste boy born in India during the British Empire, David Mitchell's number9dream is a coming-of-age fantasy set in Tokyo, while Andrew O'Hagan's Personality is based on the tragic story of Lena Zavaroni.
