Sundaysonic 2nd birthday

For those who don't mind turning up to work in a state on Monday, this is one of London's coolest Sunday parties. Started back in November 2001 by Stuart Patterson and Leo Elstob, this all-day session is an extension to its sister club Soulsonic and was launched to extend the Sonic playlist even further.

It was also a return to their West London roots as Ladbroke Grove's old Subteranea club (now the ace Neighbourhood) was the setting for the first-ever home of Soulsonic in 1998. The fact that it's open for nine hours allows a wide spectrum of music, which retains its house-based groove but can veer off into the sounds of R&B, disco, soul, dub or funk.

The past two years have seen some of my favourite DJs through the doors, including Doc Martin, Ashley Beedle, Tom Middleton and Mark Farina. A great lineup for such a small venue. And Sunday looks set to be a hot birthday party with the boys joined by New York's Adam Goldstone on the decks plus some live sax, flute and clarinet action from Nathan Haines.

This night has such a good reputation in the DJ world that it was no surprise to see the amazing Derrick Carter popping in for an impromptu gig last month. And watch out for NY legend and Paradise Garage DJ Victor Rosado in the house in a couple of weeks.
