Save it for a rainy day

OK, so at the beginning of the week, we were all optimistic about a scorching hot Bank Holiday weekend, but the scary amount of rain and floods has reminded us that if you can count on anything, it’s the unpredictable British weather. So, with this in mind, we’ve got five great films and DVDs for you to watch this weekend, just in case you need to stay under cover!

Kill Bill 2 is the biggest film release this month, and follows Uma Thurman’s vengeful assassin as she strikes off the last of her bitter enemies — including Bill! It’s not as action-packed as the first, but still chock full of Tarantino dialogue, and is an absolute must-see.

Great new Britflick Shaun of the Dead sees the cream of TV comedy battle it out against zombies taking over London. It sounds like a high-concept disaster, but this movie is a top home-grown film.

New out this weekend is Kate Winslet’s kook-fest Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which pits her against rubber faced loon Jim Carrey as two ex-lovers who have had their memories of each other erased. It’s written by Being John Malkovich scribe Charlie Kaufman and so is a cut above the average Hollywood dross.

If venturing out of doors is even too much for you precious lambs this weekend, then you can always battle down the hatches with a DVD. Russell Crowe does his best macho swaggering thing in the epic Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, a sea-faring tale perfect for the boys. If you fancy something a little lighter, American Pie — The Wedding sees those tawdry teens finally grow-up, but now without plenty of gross out gags along the way, natch.
