Monica trained as a professional dancer with the Ballet Nacional de Colombia but her career was cut short when she damaged a ligament when landing badly from a jump.
"I was shattered, but there is a Spanish saying which means: 'God closes one window but opens another door.' I decided if I couldn't dance on stage, I'd be on stage as an actor. So I came to England to train."
Her pupil Elias Zewde, 37 - pictured here as Monica's dancing partner - adds: "I see so many people become salsa maniacs. It's addictive. I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis but when I am dancing I forget about the pain. Everything goes out of my head."
The free event to launch the Royal Parks' summer entertainment programme kicks off at 6pm along the banks of the Serpentine.
