Rock and rollerskates

Rather than finish the week with a quick drink with your colleagues at the local boozer, why not pull on some rollerblades or rollerskates (for the children of the Seventies among you), and join the energetic bunch who choose to whizz around the streets of London to the sound of disco music.

Friday Night Skate - or FNS as it is known to regulars - is an informal skate meeting and takes a different route each week accompanied by a sound system pumping out dance music and old-school classics. Costing only calories, it starts at and (usually) finishes at the Duke of Wellington Arch, Hyde Park Corner. The two-hour (with 15-minute half time), 10-mile route sets off along Constitution Hill, Piccadilly or Park Lane before meandering in all number of directions, taking in the sights and sounds of anything from Big Ben and Buckingham Palace to St Paul's Cathedral and London Bridge.

Not everyone is a super-skater, and to compensate there are several Tube stations en route for those who can't last the distance.

Everyone is welcome, but the organisers stress that participants must wear protective gear and be good at braking and turning and fast enough to keep up with the group. If you make the finish, join the smug elite congratulating itself in Hyde Park's Victoria Pub.
