Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares

Cinema managers and landlords across the country, relax - next week, your Tuesday takings will be up again, as tonight sees the last episode of the superb cooking-and-swearing series that has kept five million of us glued to our televisions for the past month.

In case you have been holidaying on Saturn (nice view, shame about the ring road), here's what all the excitement has been about. Chef extraordinaire Gordon Ramsay has been parachuted into failing restaurants and been given just a week to turn around their fortunes.

His no-nonsense, experience-based, expletive-packed approach - think Sir John Harvey Jones with Tourette's - has led to some of the best television so far this year. Remember the waiter in show two with dodgy breath? Or the trainee chef from episode one whose rancid scallops made Big Gord vomit?

As well as the laugh-out-loud bits, of course (mainly sparked by Ramsay's love of the f-word as an adjective), there have also been the inspirational moments when the chef 's advice really has paid off.

In tonight's final programme, Ramsay is in Esher, Surrey, where Nick Whitehouse and Richard Hodgson run the Moore Place restaurant. Although the chaps have had successful careers in the brewery trade, they've never run an eaterie before. They started by deciding to paint the building purple (imagine how well that goes down with the posh Surrey crowd).

Then there's the chef, who doesn't appear to be able to cook that well. Sounds like a job for Mr Ramsay. Crank up the rude-word-ometer.
