Pissarro family bad boy's gems

The exotic creations of a womanising son of Camille Pissarro are to be exhibited for the first time in London since his death 40 years ago.

Georges-Henri Pissarro, the second son of the renowned French Impressionist master, followed in his father's footsteps by creating a distinct and colourful style of sensual paintings.

Known as Manzana, in a bid to escape associations with his father, the artist staged several exhibitions in London and Paris before his death in 1961 at the age of 90.

The solo exhibition, Drawing a Line to the Orient, which will run from 6-24 November at the Stern Gallery in Notting Hill, includes 56 works, ranging from early Impressionist landscapes to oriental canvasses and gold, silver and bronze works on paper.

It is being organised by Leila Pissarro, artist and great granddaughter of Camille Pissarro. She said: "He was my great uncle and although I never met him I love his paintings. His work is my favourite out of all the sons."

She added: "He loved women, he was a womaniser and married three times. His work is very sensual, with something from Gaugin, something from Matisse, and a touch of Art Deco. His portraits are very different in style from his father's work."
