Overlooked gem

Premiere magazine described this as one of the overlooked films of 2001. It stars Kirsten Dunst as a wild-child who falls for a hard-working hispanic student. All starts well Dunst, as usual, is the best - the first half being a feisty critique of rock'n'roll America, with Dunst and her senator daddy as the baddies. Interesting.

But then, in an attempt not to diss the star, the film tries to redeem her and inadvertently turns from being a film celebrating Hispanic nous into a film about how Dunst and her kind renew their fading genetic/cultural/moral stock by feeding on the poor. Is that what Premiere meant? I don't think so.

Verdict: Vampir-ella.
