"I intend to sleep in a bivouac and will be bringing a Winnie the Pooh compass, which I got in a McDonald's Happy Meal, to navigate, and a flask for hot drinks. I'll only be using B-roads. There are lots of them and they are much quieter."
Mr McGowan, who lives in Camberwell, will undertake the journey with no back-up or support team and only £20 in his pocket.
"I did start out with £100, but I spent a lot over Christmas. I'll be relying on people's generosity. But I'm going to pursue this till the end. I won't give up."
