Broadcasting legend Terry Wogan was presented with the lifetime achievement Gold Award by Dame Edna Everage - who penned a poem in his honour.
Sir Terry quipped: "Trying to follow Dame Edna is like trying to follow Chris Moyles. It always makes me feel adequate."
Capital Radio saw off fierce competition from Radio 4 and Radio Five Live to take the breaking news award for its coverage of the 7 July London bombings.
Radio 4 celebrated a clutch of trophies, including best news programme for the 6pm bulletin.
