Without the headline-grabbing exhibits of previous shortlists, this year's Turner Prize seems a rather tame affair. In the running for the £20,000 award are Fiona Banner, best known for her 'still film' wordscapes; Liam Gillick, who creates sculptures and installations; Keith Tyson, whose installations explore outer space via scientific and philosophical theorems; and Catherine Yass, who weaves Indian inspirations into her most recent 'lightbox' works. Has the prize painted itself into obscurity? Decide for yourself before the judges reveal the winner, live on TV on Sun 8 Dec. Wed 30 Oct-Sun 5 Jan, Tate Britain, Millbank, SW1 (020-7887 8000).
