My London: Jerry Hall

I live in Richmond, because I have four children and a lot of pets at home and we need the space and the greenery. There are really good schools here, too.

How long have you lived there?

For 13 years. Before that we were renting around Chelsea. Mick found this house. I love the area.

Where were the last three places you went on holiday?

The South of France, where I have a beach house near Toulon; Grenada with all the children; and Texas to see my family.

What advice would you give to a tourist?

Go to Kingston to see Sir Peter Hall's production of Shakespeare's As You Like It at the new Rose Theatre. I would recommend seeing lots of shows: I love going to the ballet, theatre and rock shows.

What do you miss most when you're out of London?

I have a lot of great friends here and I often go to people's homes for dinner parties. I miss doing that. I lived in New York for ten years and no one entertains at home there as they do here. I love the English bohemian eccentricity and the open-mindedness of Londoners.

What are your favourite home comforts?

Last Christmas my children gave me a cashmere dressing gown from Harrods. I live in it. I sit by the fire drinking tea and reading or listening to music by Ella Fitzgerald or Nina Simone.

What is your life philosophy?

Everything comes to you for a reason and it's all for the best.

What was the last CD you bought and where did you buy it?

Joni Mitchell's Dreamland - fantastic. I like to do things locally, so it's HMV in Richmond.

How do you get around town?

I take minicabs and drive when I have to.

What are your current projects?
I've been designing hosiery for Charnos all this year and we've just launched a new line of stockings that I'm really pleased with. They use a NASA silicone material to keep them up, so they don't cut into your thighs, and are topped with lace. In the New Year I will start filming a TV series for VH1 - a sort of modern Pygmalion, where I play the older woman choosing and moulding everyday young men into gentlemen like James Bond.

What were the last books you bought?

At the moment I'm reading a collection of short stories by Dorothy Parker. I've just read Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code - I guess I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. And I have bought Tom Wolfe's new novel I am Charlotte Simmons.

Who is in your secret address book?

Matches in Richmond. The staff send things over for me to try on at home. And I just love Vivienne Westwood on Conduit Street - as does my daughter Lizzie. Her designs say 'totally quirky English couture' to me.

What are your extravagances?

Treatments and doing anything to keep my stress levels down: I have reflexology, Indian head massage, cranial osteopathy, body massages and I do yoga. Occasionally I go to Champneys or have a treatment in the spa at the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge. But my biggest extravagance is keeping a horse in Richmond.

What was the last play you saw in London?

Tom Stoppard's adaptation of Henry IV by Pirandello at the Donmar, with Ian McDiarmid. It was brilliant.
