Probably the biggest seat-filler in the coming year will be the third, and final Star Wars prequel - Revenge of the Sith (out 19 May). Ultimately joining up all those loose ends left dangling from the mega-franchise, we'll finally get to see how Anakin Skywalker joins the Dark Side and becomes the evil overlord Darth Vader.

Snapping at Vadar's heels in terms on bums on seats will certainly be the magical new Potter movie - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (out 18 November). No doubt cranking out the flicks quickly so that the films' young stars don't overtake the ages they're meant to be playing, it'll be fascinating to see how new director Mike Newell tackles the chunky fourth installment of Harry’s adventures at Hogwarts.

As well as these two mega-sequels, 2005 will also see the follow-up to the terrifying Naomi Watt's 2002 hit, The Ring Two (out 18 March). Grab the arm of someone you fancy and be prepared to get all squealy. Even more exciting is the hyped-up Batman Begins (out 17 June), which sees Brit actor Christian Bale don the Caped Crusader's mantle, in a film that's buzzing with positive pre-publicity. Let's hope this prequel to the Batman saga lives up to expectations.

Two of Tinseltown's hottest — and prettiest - properties, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, are pitted against one another as a married couple, who are surprised to learn that they are assassins hired to kill each other in Mr and Mrs Smith (out 10 June). And Nicole Kidman twitches her nose like a good'un in the big-screen version of campy '60s sitcom Bewitched (out 19 August). With Anchorman’s Will Ferrell co-starring, as well as Shirley MacLaine and our very own Michael Caine, this looks set to be a kitsch riot!

For the kids, there's Tim Burton's remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (out 29 July), with celluloid chameleon Johnny Depp as candyman Willy Wonka. Tom Cruise makes another blockbusting assault on cinema (as well Academy voters, too, we'd wager) with the Spielberg-directed sci-fi drama War of the Worlds (out 8 July) and we're soon to enjoy the delights of George, Brad et al for a second time in Ocean's Twelve (out 4 Feb).

Returning closer to home, the film This is London is getting most crazy about is Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (out 6 May), the long-awaited big-screen adaptation of Douglas Adams's seminal book. Starring Martin Freeman (Tim from The Office), Bill Nighy, Mos Def and John Malkovich, we’re more or less ready to explode with excitement in the wait. The year’s looking good so far...
