Marry me, Kylie

Kylie Minogue is to marry her boyfriend of two years.

Olivier Martinez is said to have proposed as the Australian singer recovered from surgery last week.

Miss Minogue, 36, was said to be overjoyed and immediately said Yes.

Martinez, a 39-year-old French actor, decided he wanted Miss

Minogue as his wife as they faced her battle against breast cancer.

Yesterday his cousin, Stephane Martinez, speaking from his home in Paris, said Miss

Minogue's illness had helped Martinez realise how important she was to him.

'Kylie's illness has made Olivier realise there is more to life than a glitzy showbusiness career,' he said.

'He has told his parents that Kylie is the one. 'Olivier is at an age where he wants to settle down and start a family and I know that Kylie feels the same way too.'

He said Miss Minogue's diagnosis had made Martinez take stock of their relationship.

'When you are faced with something like what has just happened to Kylie, anything else, including acting, becomes unimportant.

'Olivier is in a position where he can now be with Kylie all of the time,' he told a Sunday newspaper.

Sources close to Miss Minogue said: 'It's wonderful news that they are to marry.

'Kylie hit rock bottom when she learned she had cancer but now she and Olivier have so much to look forward to.'

Miss Minogue was admitted to St Francis Xavier Cabrini hospital in her hometown of Melbourne last Thursday.

On Friday afternoon she had a lumpectomy, in which the tumour was removed from her breast. Martinez kept a vigil at the hospital and is believed to have proposed soon after the treatment.

He was with her when she went home on Saturday.

After performing the operation, Dr Jenny Senior hailed the procedure a success and said Miss Minogue had been the 'perfect patient'. She confirmedthe cancer had not spread to other parts of her body.

This will be a huge relief to Miss Minogue because it means the disease will be easier to isolate and treat.
