Summer 2003: A Constantly Changing Exhibition

As each red sticker is slapped on, another artwork is hung in its place, but this is a classy conveyor belt, featuring pieces by artists both modern and contemporary. A vibrant Patrick Heron abstract shimmers in the company of paintings by Terry Frost and Scotsman John Bellany and the lesser-known, larger-scale painter David Leapman. Mixed Summer Exhibition

The carpenter-turned-Pop Artist Joe Tilson features in the Beaux Arts summer show, and he can also be found just a few doors along, in the Alan Cristea Gallery's print show, where he is joined by Sixties contemporaries such as David Hockney and Allen Jones. Of a yet more mellowed vintage is Richard Hamilton, who at the age of 81 has begun to experiment with digital technology. Younger bloods are represented by Ian Davenport and Sean Scully. Gallery Artists

Earlier this year, Annely Juda Fine Art mounted an exhibition of a majestic new series of sculptures by the veteran artist Anthony Caro. Caro becomes the subject of a Tate Britain retrospective next year, but for now you can catch a selection of his work in this impressive group summer show, where he is joined by fellow sculptors including Nigel Hall and the multi-talented Christo. Twilight

If all this summeriness sounds too - well - sunny for you, make your way down to the tortured gloom of the Gimpel Fils gallery, where the likes of Cindy Sherman, Paul McCarthy and Douglas Gordon have taken up residence. Horror, voodoo and spiritualism are all on the menu, explored through a range of media from video to photography - a doll lies slumped in a corner, a cellar door shakes and rattles to a ghoulish soundtrack, a man chokes on a hotdog. Spend long enough here and even the seemingly innocent scenes depicted in paintings by Pamela Golden, Sista Pratesi and Clare Woods will send shivers down your spine.
