After a long line of potential husbands - including the late pop star Michael Hutchence - she has spent four years with Martinez, a man she described as 'lovely'.
'Our relationship has gone well from the beginning,' she added. 'I suppose it helps that he understands my career.
'Relationships are wonderful but they require some work whether you're miles away or in the same situation all the time. I'm good at communicating with phone calls and texts. That's the key.'
Her relationship with Martinez, she enthused, was 'meant to be. We really have fun together'.
The Melbourne-born singer who rose to fame as an actress in Neighbours said she was still taking things slowly and her illness had 'been a long, hard road up to now'.
Miss Minogue, who had a partial mastectomy and months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, admitted that she considered 'retiring to a little house and giving it all up'.
Despite the temptation, she said: 'When I think about it, I realise I have a job that I love and I get a lot of enjoyment from it.
'I want to settle down, but I've got stuff I want to do in my career, too.
'I've got so much whirring around in my mind that I don't know where to start. It's exciting.' Miss Minogue spoke of her determination to make the most of each day. 'I always look forward,' she said. 'I'm not a great believer in looking back.
'I've always lived in the moment because I know more than most how things can suddenly drop from the sky and shake everything up.'
There will be at least one difference when she returns to touring, however - she has decided to retire her famous hotpants.
'I think of all of my past images, and none of them are like me. I've gone through a lot of changes, states of mind and different understandings about myself.
'I'm just like any girl and I have the same anxieties and issues.'
Rumours have swept through the ranks of her millions of fans around the world that the singer will be back on stage in November.
