Kate: Woman's place is in the home

Kate may be the daughter of one of Hollywood's free spirits, but it seems the actress is just an old-fashioned girl who believes a woman's place is in the home.

While her mother Goldie Hawn has made a career in films such as Private Benjamin and The First Wives Club, her 25-year-old daughter says she wants to be seen as a dutiful wife and mother.

"I think the greatest thing when you're a female who is always out and about or doing something is to remember that your place is in the home," she says in an interview in the latest issue of InStyle Magazine.

"I want my man to to feel like he's the man of the house, because that's the greatest dynamic of men and women," she said. "Because I want a guy who wants to be that guy."

The actress , who is married to rock singer Chris Robinson, has a sixmonthold son Ryder. "Part of me feels I got lucky with my husband because he's such a loyal, beautiful man," she said.

"Not all men are like my husband and I think there are some women who should try a little harder."

Her old-fashioned views echo those of fellow star Gwyneth Paltrow, who earlier this year attacked women who go back to work after having a baby, saying she "could not understand women who put their careers before their children".

Together they suggest that traditional values may be taking hold in a profession that for years has symbolised permissive behaviour and the break-down of family relationships.

Hudson, nominated for an Oscar as Seventies groupie Penny Lane in Almost Famous, even maintains that "we need to make men happy," telling other women: "I think marriage is a beautiful thing, but kids are the big institution."

Her father is musician Bill Hudson but she was brought up by her mother's boyfriend of 20 years, Kurt Russell. She claims that divorce is "horrible" and that every child "needs both parents".

Her mother has never remarried but Hudson said: "I have no regrets about marrying young. I hated the dating circuit.
