Kate and Pete's long Wight night

Every festival-goer knows how they feel. Pete Doherty and Kate Moss looked as if the start of the festival season had all been a bit too much on the Isle of Wight.

The rock star and his supermodel girlfriend might have appeared as if they had been at yet another party - but they had just come off stage.

Moss stood loyally in the wings while Doherty sprawled on stage and, with his band Baby Shambles, gave a riotous performance.

It was a far cry from last year's festival when his former band, The Libertines, were forced to pull out because he was in a drug rehabilitation clinic in Thailand. Last week the singer said he had given up heroin and crack cocaine for the sake of Moss and the two children they have by former partners.

Doherty, 26, who has said he hopes to marry Moss this summer, said he agreed to have a naltrexone implant to stop him craving drugs.

The three-day festival also featured Razorlight, Bryan Ferry, Starsailor, Embrace and Snow Patrol, and closed with a twohour set from REM, whose singer Michael Stipe performed with a stripe of blue paint across his face.

Pink Floyd are re-uniting for the Live8 concert highlighting Third World poverty in Hyde Park on 2 July.

David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright will perform together in public for the first time since falling out in 1981. Gilmour said: "Any squabbles the band had in the past are so petty in this context."
