Jail warning for Ms Dynamite

Ms Dynamite was today warned she could face a jail sentence after pleading guilty to assaulting a police officer.

The rapper, who has been praised for her stance against violence, admitted slapping a female constable in the face after a night out in central London.

The court was told how the Brits Award and Mercury Music prize-winning star had become abusive outside the Paragon Lounge Club in Mayfair in the early hours of 6 January.

Police were called to the night club in Hanover Street at 5.25am where they came across a disturbance involving the singer, her brother Kingsley McLean and another woman, said Audrey Hawkes, prosecuting.

"When she was approached police were met with abuse. She was told to calm down on repeated occasions. She continued to be abusive and after a warning, was arrested."

Miss Hawkes said that Ms Dynamite, 24, who appeared at Bow Street magistrates court under her real name Niomi McLean-Daley, was held back by her brother during the fracas.

He had been phoned in a bid to calm the star down, but when officers tried to make their arrest he held onto her forearms and prevented them from doing so.

"She was eventually arrested and taken to the police station," Miss Hawkes told the hearing. "At the police station she was abusive again and hit the police officer with an open palm on one side of the face. There were no injuries."

The officer involved was Caryn Marles.

Anthony Burton, appearing for McLean-Daley, said inside the club her 18-year-old sister had been racially abused.

He said: "This incident arose out of another incident which occurred within the club prior to Ms McLean-Daley's behaviour which led to the disorderly conduct and that involved her younger sister being the subject of racial abuse and, certainly, that her younger sister was assaulted. That was the trigger. That was the catalyst."
