It's Boogie Woogie Will

It may be his movie debut and he might only have a supporting role but Will Young stole the show at the premiere of new British film Mrs Henderson Presents.

Dame Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins, who star in Stephen Frears's new comedy, both paid tribute to singer-turned-actor Young who sang a number from the film at the post-premiere party.

Mrs Henderson Presents is the true story of a widow, played by Dame Judi, who shocked society in the 1930s by introducing nude showgirls at the Windmill Theatre in Soho. Bob Hoskins is her manager Vivian Van Damm and Young plays Bertie, the lead male performer at the Windmill.

Dame Judi declared herself entranced by Young. She told the Standard. "He can do whatever he wants. He's very talented." And Hoskins said: "Will was amazing. I didn't know who he was. Then he started to sing and I said 'This kid can sing, too' and I was told 'Yes, he is a singer'."

Young performed Boo g ie Woo gie Bugle Boy, complete with chorus girls from Mrs Henderson Presents, at the post-premiere party at Floridita in Soho.

Three years after he won reality TV show Pop Idol, the singer has made no
secret of the fact that he wants to become a film star. He said: "Mrs Henderson Presents was a story I believed in and was inspired by. I really hope to do more films. The reaction from people in the industry has been good. "The best things in life are things that surprise you."

Asked if he would chance Hollywood, Young, 26, replied: "I would chance the right role in Hollywood."

He said that he would like to make a film with director Mike Leigh. "He is someone that I would be really excited to work with."

And he confessed he relished his fleeting moment of nudity in Mrs Henderson Presents. "It opened up the nudist in me. I ended up walking nude around the house," he said.
