She's the new darling of the music industry and, at 17, has already earned millions.

But it seems that Joss Stone has become impatient with waiting for her rewards and is squaring up to her family in a fight for her money.

Her parents, Richard, who has a dried fruit business, and Wendy, who gave up work in property to manage her daughter, set up a trust which Joss cannot touch until she is 21.

They originally set the figure at 25 but have agreed to lower it.

Music accountant Cliff Dane has estimated that the singer is already worth £4.5million, thanks to the sales of her debut album and the chart-topping Mind,

Body & Soul. But Joss survives on 'pocket money' from her trust fund and said recently she was 'broker than my friend Emily, who works in Burger King'.

Sources close to the singer yesterday revealed that she wants to get her hands on her money when she turns 18 in April.

'She is one very determined young lady and if she wants something she normally gets it,' said the source.

'After lots of stamping of her feet, she got her parents to put the age down to 23 and now she has got it down to 21. She is continuing to pursue it, arguing that she should have her money when she turns 18. She can't understand why it is being held back.

'She doesn't want to go wild - she just wants to buy a house and treat her friends.'

The family wrangling over money echoes the experience of another young singer who has made it big in Britain and the U.S., Charlotte Church.

Charlotte, who has a famously volatile relationship with her mother, won the right to get into her trust fund at the age of 18, although the original limit was set at 21.

However, when she reached 18 earlier this year, she announced that she would not be touching it and would instead get £250 a week from the fund.
