I'm big on revenge, I'm a Gemini

Yes, especially when she's looking after her son Harvey, nearly three. He was born with an under-active thyroid and virtually no optic nerve. The result is that he is pretty much blind, weighs more than four stone ("that's over half my weight!" says Price) and has to have medication three times a day, as well as endless trips to hospitals and specialists. Price fell out very publicly with Harvey's father, footballer Dwight Yorke, who initially seemed to take little interest in his son. Despite all this, Harvey comes across as being a jolly little boy. "Oh Harvey!" says Price. "The only thing that upsets me about Harvey is when people make fun of him. I think that's very hurtful. I heard Harry Hill, that comedian, came on stage in an inflatable suit and made jokes about him. You know, Harvey is ill. He barely eats. It's his illness that makes him so big."

After Harvey was diagnosed, many people blamed Price for her son's problems as she was often seen out clubbing until the wee hours when she was pregnant. Later, she stunned the nation by revealing that she took Gareth Gates' virginity when she was six months gone. Gates denied it but, eventually, admitted it was true. "I got so lambasted for that," she says, "but my hormones were raging and, anyway, why do I get the blame for sleeping with him when I was pregnant? No one criticises him for sleeping with me!"

The allegations about Harvey still hurt. "I asked the doctor's endlessly if Harvey's problems were down to me and they have all said no, so that's how it is." She is remarkably stoical when it comes to Harvey. "He is a beautiful boy but he has his problems. When he gets frustrated, he head-bangs. It's not all laughs, you know.

I think people forget I'm a single mum. But do you know what I'm good at? Showing people you don't just have to give up your life when you have a kid.

"I was working 10 days after Harvey was born. I persuaded my mum to give up her job to look after him but I'm with him a lot of the time. I'll do a job in London and drive two hours back to Sussex to cuddle him and put him to bed and then get up at 5am and drive back to London. I'm not complaining. That's just how it is." How does Harvey feel about Peter? "He loves him," she says. "Mind you, his dad comes to see him a bit more now. I think that's important."

The love story between Peter Andre and Katie Price was watched by millions of viewers on I'm A Celebrity. After she came out of the jungle she promptly dumped her boyfriend at the time, millionaire's son Scott Sullivan, and took up with Andre after a bit of a will they/won't they shenanigan. What was all that about? "In the jungle I wasn't sure if Pete was being real or playing a game. I don't think I knew how to recognise genuine feelings. Nearly every bloke I'd been out with had sold stories on me and made money out of me. I'd never met anyone like Pete."

Now, a year on down the line, they're engaged and expecting a baby. Price is sporting a huge rock, or more like a massive golf ball made up of many rocks, on her finger. It's not her engagement ring, though. "My friend made it for me," she says. "I said to him I want a huge, expensive, show-off ring and he did this." She twirls it around. It's very eye-catching. "I'm only wearing it today because Pete's in LA recording an album and I don't know the security number on the safe."

She tells me that she truly loves Peter. "He's by far the best-looking man I've ever been out with. He really adores me. I know I can be bossy and he puts up with me and then he gets angry and I think 'whoaah' and I say to him, 'Going to drive up to north London and see your family are you?' and then I think, 'Oh, stop being such a cow.' She describes what happens after a row. "He goes upstairs and I stay downstairs and then we text each other like teenagers." What type of things? "R U all right? - that sort of stuff."

The nation is fascinated, of course, to see if the couple get married, or whether the relationship is no more than a canny business arrangement. The Jordan and Peter brand has, apparently, netted them £5 million in their first year. Price herself has made millions. She has a £750,000 house with swimming pool and stables. So are her and Andre for real? "Of course we are," she says. "Pete and I are happy together. No one sees us at home at night when the cameras aren't around. People keep saying we haven't known each other for long, but who's to say that's wrong?" She wants a huge dress, " a meringue!", six white horses and a carriage like Cinderella's, and says she might have the wedding televised.

She is, at heart, a family girl. She lives in Maresfield, Sussex to be near her mum, Amy, and stepfather, Paul. She and her mum are like two peas in a pod, apparently, but her mother doesn't like the fact that Price has everything in pink, even the Aga. Does her mum mind what she does? "Not at all," she says. After all, Price started off her working life as an assistant in an old people's home. I don't suppose she ever imagined staying there for long. But now the toast has arrived and Price has a busy day. "I eat like a pig," she says, "and I'm very lazy. I never work out. I'm just lucky."

Much has been made, since Price's appearance in the jungle, of whether she's a feminist icon or not. What does she think? "Oh come on!" she says, spluttering on her toast. "It's all getting a bit ridiculous really. I'm just me!" Whoever that may be.
