'I put my life on the line to get those pictures shown,' Samura said.
'I took the risks to make sure people and policy-makers in the West were able to see every detail of what was happening, so that nobody could turn around and say it didn't happen.'
Samura doubts if aid allowances will ever be enough or if the West should consider other options - a plan for a truly independent Africa perhaps, rather than 'this aid drip'.
'Ready-made Western solutions aren't working,' he said. 'Ethiopians are willing and able but current solutions disable.
'They are grateful, of course, but they - we - want to make decisions for us, to take responsibility for us, not just be given crumbs at the gate.'
