Rick Stein's Seafood School Cookbook was in eighth place, while the Chez Panisse Cafe Cookbook by Alice Waters won ninth.
The Cook's Companion by Stephanie Alexander was at number ten.
There were some famous names missing from the list.
Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson and Gordon Ramsay were not included.
The most useless book to have in the kitchen, according to the judges, is the encyclopaedic Larousse Gastronomique.
It was regarded as ' overrated, esoteric and stuffy'.
