Head for the Carnival

Shoreditch kicks cars off the streets this Sunday for the Pilsner Urquell Shoreditch Carnival & Car Free Day.

Instead, the streets will be filled with stalls, music, terrace-style eating and drinking, a cycle test track, and general good-natured merriment.

The event forms part of European Mobility Week, during which hundreds of other town centres across the Continent will also be enjoying the luxury of car-free streets for the day.

The event’s theme this year will be to promote 'Safe Streets for Children', with SureStart Hoxton helping to provide a fun area for kids to play.

There are some cracking live acts promised on the Pilsner Urquell Original Talent stage (although you will have to turn up on the day to find out who), as well as funky breaks and beats of the Secretsundaze sound system; a strong drum & bass billing provided by the nearby Herbal club; the Showsomelove urban music area; the binglybingly musical area and reggae roots and culture from Solution Sound System.

If you’re thinking of driving to the event, don’t. There will be plenty of buses off the Shoreditch Triangle, while Old Street and Liverpool Street Tube stations are just a few minutes walk away (disabled drivers should contact the organisers to arrange parking.)

But to really enjoy the day, why not wipe the cobwebs off that old bike and cycle as there will be ample parking for the two-wheel form of transport.
