Happy £136m birthday!

Most young girls worry about following the latest fashion trends but one teenager will soon be setting them.

Allegra Versace will inherit half of the Versace fashion empire on June 30 - her 18th birthday.

The windfall - worth £136million - comes from her murdered uncle, fashion mogul Gianni Versace.

It will mean she can control the business and tell the minority shareholders - her mother Donatella and uncle Santo - what to do.

But Allegra is a reluctant heiress, racked with self doubt.

When she was told about the inheritance in 1997 after Gianni was shot dead outside his Miami home, she asked: 'Why did my uncle choose me?'

The answer is simple. Gianni, who had no children, doted on Allegra, calling her 'my little princess'. He also

lavished attention on her brother, Daniel, and left him his art collection, which includes Picassos valued at about £18million.

Neither Donatella nor Santo was mentioned in the will because both already owned large stakes in the company - 20 per cent and 30 per cent respectively.

But if Allegra believes running the multi-national empire will be child's play, she will be in for a shock.

Times are tough for Versace. Since Gianni's death, the value of the famous brand has plummeted from £435million to £272million.

The Milan-based company is also bracing itself for a £25million inheritance tax bill from the government.

Italian commentators are predicting the teenager may be the breath of fresh air needed to turn around the fortunes of the ageing fashion house.

But Allegra may have other plans and has her heart set on a movie career. She is taking acting classes in Milan and wants to study film in New York.
