Killing Me Softly

Pathe Distribution, 18, £9.99/£5.99

Chen Kaige (Farewell My Concubine) came a cropper with his first English-language film, a thriller so silly it verges on unintended comedy. Joseph Fiennes is the mountaineer Heather Graham falls for; soon love turns to terror as she realises he may be a murderer. All promising, but dealt with so clumsily and with such histrionics that the scares lack any force and the denouement elicits only relief. Stay away. (NC)

Badlands (cert 18)

The original Natural Born Killers Road movie, Badlands catapulted Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek into the big league as Kit and Holly, who are adrift in a double fantasy of crime and punishment. In a headlong flight from nowhere to nowhere, they’re in a world of their own, firing bullets and causing bloodshed. Based on a true story, this is a provocative study of people numbingly alienated from everyday life.

From the director of 9 ½ weeks, Fatal Attraction and Indecent Proposal, comes another steamy thriller. Starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane, this is a complex story of lust, love, passion and obsession and is loaded with bonus features. Connie (Lane) and Edward (Gere) live an idyllic life in New York’s suburbs. But when she bumps into a seductive bookseller, a chain of events that will dramatically change their lives forever is unleashed.

X-Men 1.5 — The X-Treme Edition of the Original Film

Based on Stan Lee’s classic Marvel comic book series, X-Men tells the story of children born in a time when prejudices are created by extra super-powers and mutated-characteristics. Resident Evil

The West Wing (Season 2, Part1)
