New Jersey's Tony Humphries, who guests at Ministry's Master Series, belongs in this bracket: he began DJing house in 1975 and, through living in London (where he was resident at Ministry) and Rimini, he took house music to the wider world.
This weekend, Humphries presents an overview of his 30-year career with a seven-hour set which will render house's subgenres irrelevant. Put simply, this will be the definitive history of house.
Former celeb haunt Browns has undergone a revamp and relaunches this weekend with some of the capital's leading promoters taking it in a promising new direction.
Mark Herman and Terry Hart, the duo behind fashionista magnet Drama, are looking after Fridays with mixed/gay night Red Light, which is all about high glamour with a dirty, sexy and tribal soundtrack.
Saturdays host the legendary Electric Stew, who continue their penchant for the freshest dance and live music in high-end venues.
This weekend, it also serves as the Scissor Sisters/Goldfrapp gig afterparty, with DJs Nathan Wilkins and Seb Chew, plus a gig from Fierce Girl.
Considering the lack of intimate venues in the West End offering nonmainstream sounds, Browns's return is welcome.

Top five... Paris club nights
DJ Dmitri, Daft Punk, Cassius, Laurent Garnier... Paris has always had a thriving nightlife scene and now's no different.
1. Batofar
A moored boat on the Seine that rocks until 6am. Easter weekend saw Berlin duo Tiefschwarz guesting and tomorrow has Birmingham's Different Drummer soundsystem with hip hop from DJ Format. www.batofar.net
2. Rex
Laurent Garnier's Wake Up nights forged the Rex's reputation as a temple to international sounds of cool. Jeff Mills, Daft Punk and Carl Cox have all played there and Gilles Peterson is resident on the first Thursday of each month. www.rexclub.com
3. Favela Chic
Long-running celebration of Brazilian culture (food, drink and music). It's spread to London this year with appearances from Favela residents DJ Gringo and Tchiky at 333, Notting Hill Arts Club and Groove Armada's forthcoming Lovebox boat party (May 1). www.favelachic.com
4. La Suite
David Guetta (pictured) helped launched Rex and the blingtastic Le Bains nightclubs and also brought DJs of international stature to Paris. Now Guetta's a superstar house DJ in his own right and his stylist wife Cathy adds more than a touch of fashion cool to their regular night at bar/lounge La Suite.
5. F-Com
The legendary French electronica label (think a Gallic Warp or Ninja) is ten this year and celebrates with a weekend of concerts and parties (Apr 29 and 30) featuring Think Twice, Avril, Alex Kidd and Frederic Galliano. www.fcom.fr
