Our man in the burka, John Simpson was the first and most uniquely disguised reporter into Kabul a couple of years ago and he has remained pretty much the numero uno face of telly war reportage in the Gulf Wars over the past 20 years.

His new book, The Wars Against Saddam: The Hard Road To Baghdad, is his fourth volume of memoirs. He tells both the history of Iraq and describes many of his own experiences there, including what some dubbed his ultimate coup, that of being 'on the spot' during the catastrophic bombing in Northern Iraq by US 'friendly fire' in April that left 18 Kurds and Simpson's own interpreter dead.

He is the first of the pop TV reporters to have been published. Expect many more. John Simpson signs copies.
