Known for?: Being the milky-hued frontman in hideously over-hyped indie chancers The Libertines, whereupon his heroin/crack addiction soon rose to the surface, followed by many stints in court/chokey/rehab. Currently a 'tabloid favourite' thanks to his eccentric romance with La Moss and seemingly boundless enthusiasm to open his heart to whichever hack is poking a tape recorder in his face.

Romance rocketed when: As a two-year-tradition dictates, Kate's birthday party must throw up some tabloid-friendly story. This year, at her Cotswold's mansion, it was the news that she was seen 'snogging the face off' the Babyshambles singer that caused the 'what the f...?' ripples. Within a matter of days, the two stable-as-you-like lovebirds had got matching tattoos. Of course.

Make or break: After an increasingly ridiculous month, Pete's now in rehab after being charged with assault and theft. If Kate sticks by her man — who she’s already been rumoured to have dumped, then taken back again — she'll be taking on one hell of a challenge...Pete's been unable to kick the habit for a couple of years now.

Soppy speak: Unlike La Moss, Pete just can't stop pouring his heart out. Eminently quotable quips range from "I'm in love with Kate and I think it's in the stars that we should be together. I don't know what's going on with the relationship right now but I know I've met the woman I want to be with for the rest of my life," to "It's been the best week in a long time because I've really found love with Kate. Biz Bitch says: The Moss/Doherty saga has been the most entertaining/improbable celeb romance of 2005 — and we reckon little can top it. Kate's a wild'n'crazy gal, Pete's a wild'n'crazy rocker, so surely these two are made for each other? But BB reckons Kate's a tough cookie, much more so than delicate ickle flower Petie. She'll break his heart and we'll have to endure countless more rehab sagas and peons of love from the heartbroken whippersnapper. Triffic.
