First sight of Joss in her Gap year

Joss Stonr might be famous for sporting the scruffier end of the boho look, but it seems she has had a change of image. As this exclusive picture shows, Devon's most famous singing export since Coldplay's Chris Martin has gone all sultry and seductive for her starring role in a new television advertisement for Gap.

It is not surprising she has chosen a more grown-up look. Last week, Stone celebrated her 18th birthday and was presented with £100,000 of uncut diamonds by her record label, EMI. She obviously wanted a hot new style to go with them.

Diamonds might be a girl's best friend, but Stone's white Gap jeans run a close second. Fashion observers will have noted that white jeans are the last word in chic this summer: Kate Moss is inseparable from hers, while Jade Jagger and The OC's Mischa Barton are in a select coterie of women who possess bums and thighs slim enough to wear them.

Stone is no stick insect, yet her curvy figure still looks great. After the ultra-slim proportions of Sarah Jessica Parker, the face of Gap for several seasons, Stonewill be an inspiration to legions of dieting women.

There can be no doubt that Stone has joined the celebrity A-list. Before Parker, the famous women associated with Gap included Madonna, Missy Elliot, Demi Moore, Winona Ryder, Anjelica Huston, Macy Gray, Juliette Lewis and Carole King. Sadly for British fans, unless you fly to the States, this is the only glimpse you'll have as the advertisement is airing only in the US.

Gap is, however, offering a free download of the song Stone performs in the advert - a cover of Ray Charles's The Right Time - on its website, www.gap.com.

British fans, meanwhile, can see her live at the V Festival in Chelmsford in August.
