Farrell ordered to get in shape

Colin Farrell has been told to hit the gym by the director of his new film

The Irish actor, who openly admits his love of alcohol and drugs, has been told to improve his physique by Michael Mann, who starts directing Miami Vice next month.

In the big-screen version of the 1980s TV show, 28-year-old Farrell will play Detective Sonny Crockett, a role made famous by Don Johnson.

'Colin is going to gain about 7kg (15lb) of upper body muscle,' said Mann.
