Eyewitness: John Pilger

John Pilger has made it his life's work to expose and highlight injustice and hypocrisy.

From the early films on Vietnam, Cambodia and Thalidomide through to the recent subjects of Burma, Iraq and globalisation, Pilger's investigative journalistic strengths have always been supported by strong, often haunting, images.

In his written pieces, the power of the accompanying pictures should never be underestimated; there is nothing a good argument likes better than an image that encapsulates its essence.

It is no surprise, then, that Pilger has developed relationships with some of the world's leading photo-journalists.

He has brought their work together here to form an exhibition devised not only to refocus our eyes on those parts of the world too often ignored but also to highlight the skill and worth of the photo-journalist's art.

Grouped geographically across seven continents, this large exhibition includes work by Eric Piper (Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh), Susan Meiselas (Nicaragua), Ken Regan (Presidents Nixon and Carter), Marion Kaplan (Kenya) and Steve Cox (East Timor), as well as a series of images taken in Burma by the late film-maker David Munro, possibly Pilger's closest collaborator.

Pilger himself will be on hand for a screentalk in September to mark a short season of his films.
