ShowbizEdwyn Collins in fight for his lifeSuzy Austin|Metro11 April 2012Edwyn Collins is seriously ill after suffering a brain haemorrhage.The singer and guitarist, who fronted 80s rock band Orange Juice, was taken ill in London on Sunday.'Edwyn Collins suffered a cerebral haemorrhage on Sunday night and has been in hospital since, where doctors are trying to stabilise his condition,' his management team said in a statement.The 45-year-old musician, who enjoyed solo success with the huge 1995 hit AGirl Like You, was born in Edinburgh.In 1976 he formed the Nu-Sonics, who reformed three years later as Orange Juice, and led the Glasgow neo-pop scene with songs such as Rip It Up.Despite his trademark soulful baritone, the singer struggled with his solo career.But he earned another shot as a performer when he signed with the small independent label Setanta in the 1990s, recording the album Gorgeous George and its song A Girl Like You.Collins, who lives in London, was working as producer on the debut album from London blues-soul three-piece Little Barrie when he was taken ill.MORE ABOUTIndie MusicJuiceOrange (fruit)Parlophone RecordsPost 2000 IndiePost Punk
