She said: "When I asked them if they had heard of resuscitation the daughter said: 'Those paddles you bring people back to life with? I have seen it on the telly'.
"I had to describe that it does not always work, you don't just bring paddles and bring people back to life. I found that very hard."
Chairman of the conference Michael Wilks said: "It is totally unrealistic, the portrayal in the media and we need to set the record straight."
The conference passed a motion saying: "This meeting calls upon the Government to balance the unrealistic media portrayal of the efficacy of CPR and to explain to the public that health professionals do not always attempt CPR in the event of cardiac arrest; the true effectiveness of CPR; that they may be asked to discuss this issue during hospital admission."
