"Julian's put in loads of effort. We work well as a team and he deserves to be in the final."
Judge Bruno Tonioli was less diplomatic. He said: "He's not a natural dancer. His foxtrot last week - there was no fox there, it was more of a snailtrot. But his improvement has been quite remarkable. After the programme, he'll probably end up starring in Chicago."
Victory would revive the comedian's career. Despite TV appearances Clary, who was born and brought up in Teddington, has been eclipsed by the likes of Graham Norton and Paul O'Grady. But pundits say Clary - who was only invited after Norton declined - has charmed viewers with his total disregard for common niceties.

Clary said today: "I am thrilled to be in the final."
BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing final begins at 6.55pm tomorrow.
