Yet Sir Terence still remains hopeful of a reconciliation between Mr Dyson and the museum. He said: "I want a democratic dialogue between the trustees and the director. I would like a change of heart in the director in discussing her ideas with the trustees."
He added that if there was more of an "open dialogue" between Miss Rawsthorne and the trustees Mr Dyson might be persuaded to return to the museum. Miss Rawsthorne was unavailable for comment.
