His latest work, 'Plan For A Spell', showing in Brighton's Fabrica Gallery, is a surround-sound video installation designed to create magic. Thirteen short filmed scenes including wind turbines, a demolition derby, burning foot-and-mouth pyres and more upbeat folk or community events are combined in a continuously random sequence with an equally random combination of sounds and narrative-like subtitles. The piece can run for weeks without repeating the same combination but at some point 'a spell for clarity' is programmed to appear.
