Cheers and tears for last Frasier

Frasier left the building for the final time last night as the multi-award-winning TV sitcom ended its 11-year run.

The finale marked an end of a remarkable era for star Kelsey Grammer, who first played the neurotic psychiatrist on the series Cheers 20 years ago.

In the spin-off, his character moved from Boston to Seattle to host a radio advice show. Grammer signed off as Frasier in the US last night with a one-hour special.

'We proved that most of America is much smarter than TV assumes they are,' the actor said.

But there are rumours that the character could make a comeback.
