Charlotte's four-letter rant

Cometh the girl, cometh the swearing.

Charlotte Church, with the Voice of an Angel and the Mouth of a Football Hooligan, did not disappoint when collecting two awards last night.

She used what might only be described as hearty Anglo Saxon (not Welsh) to express dismay at her own choice of dress at the Glamour magazine Women Of The Year Awards.

Starting off in a classy, white Roberto Cavalli number, she changed to a vintage-style Hawaiian print dress, also by Cavalli. He may have been delighted that Church chose to wear his designs. He may not be so pleased when he discovers what she thought of one of them. She declared to guests, among them supermodels, royals and Hollywood actresses: "I feel like an a***hole because I look like the top of a f***ing cake."

Church was a double winner at the ceremony in a marquee in Berkeley Square Gardens. She was UK solo artist of the year but also received a special a wa rd for "achieving in the last 20 years what most of us wish we could achieve in a lifetime". Not bad considering she's still only 20. Then again, she has sold millions of records, manages to drink like a fish and is dating rugby's most desirable player, Gavin Henson, who sat with her.

Other winners were the Sugababes, Davina McCall, Elizabeth-Hurley, Emma Thompson, Nicollette Sheridan, Sharon Osbourne, Zara Phillips and Billie Piper.

Kylie Minogue was named woman of the year but did not attend. The 37-year-old, recovering from breast cancer, sent a message to fans: "The last year has been my least public but, in many ways, the most. Your support has been an enormous help and I hope to be back with you all in person very soon."

After 20 years in the fashion industry, Naomi Campbell was handed the outstanding contribution award. Designer Alexander McQueen hailed the 36 - year- old Streatham-born model as a "major influence on most designers around the world" and a "superstar in her own right".

Campbell seemed close to tears when she said: "It's a thrill for me to be here in my home town. This is the first time I've ever won an award for myself in England. And this is where my career began 20 years ago."
