Taylor Swift lights up Westfield Centre

Taylor Swift performed a mini-concert as she turned on the Christmas lights at Westfield in Shepherds Bush last night.

More than 10,000 fans, some of whom queued overnight, packed into the shopping centre to see the 22-year-old Grammy award winner perform just three songs, including her hit single “We are never ever getting back together”, wearing a knee-length red dress.

Paige Harvey, 18, from Berkshire, said: “We had to camp out in the freezing cold car park. It was horrible we didn’t get any sleep, but it was all definitely worth it to see Taylor. My parents thought were mad but we love her.”

Daniel Thorpe, 18, from Ruislip, west London, said: “Dancing around with children and toddlers next to me isn’t my typical gig, but I was definitely willing to make an exception for Taylor Swift.”

Myf Ryan, Westfield’s general manager, said: “The lights switch on is always a special occasion and this year was no exception. Our shoppers were delighted to have the opportunity to see a global star perform.”

The chart-topping American singer avoided discussing the US elections and stuck to her love of her British fans, the British accent and of course of the festive season.

She said: "I love everything about Christmas. I live on a Christmas tree farm but I never thought I'd be here switching on lights."

Other stars who have turned on the Westfield lights in Shepherds Bush include Justin Beiber and Rhianna.

Rhianna is also believed to have been offered £5 million for turning on the Christmas lights at the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford this year.
