Surf dudes

Nina Caplan|Metro
5 April 2012

DVD/VIDEO Blue Crush, Momentum Pictures, 12, £15.99/£12.99

This surfer babe flick may be based on a story by New Yorker writer Susan Orlean, but Hollywood has messed with her words as much as Charlie Kaufman did when he wrote Adaptation about her book The Orchid Thief. And this time the results are the opposite of whacky.

Kate Bosworth is the talented wannabe surfing champion with stage fright after a bad accident. Matthew Davis is the sporty hunk whose love makes all the difference, and the rest is Hollywood Screenwriting 101, except for the surfing visuals, which are terrific. Extras include lots of docs, featurettes and a Lenny Kravitz music vid. NC
