It is widely said that Wogan is a gifted radio performer, and I am willing to accept that (he's not my cup of tea, but then I don't like tea, either). But radio is a hot medium, whereas TV is a cold one, and his brand of high-octane whimsy simply doesn't transfer, as the long list of his TV failures attests, from Lunchtime with Wogan and Disco in the 1970s, through to more recent disasters like Wogan's Friday Night, Wogan's Island, Wogan's Web and Wogan's Guide to Being an Old Geezer (okay, Children in Need does well in the ratings, but you don't need talent for that, just lots of kids with leukaemia).
