Olly Murs has said he believes he was a good X Factor host – despite a few “hiccups”.

Murs, 31 – who famously announced Monica Michael’s exit too early last series – said he has no regrets following his departure from the talent show and said he hopes to return to TV in the future.

“In my heart, I felt like I did a good job and there were a few hiccups along the way but that’s what live TV is about,” he told Metro.

“The biggest learning experience was doing live television and presenting the biggest show on TV.

“I’d only ever presented The Xtra Factor and a couple of bits and bobs along the way, so to be given the biggest gig on TV was a huge opportunity and I loved it.

“It’s something I’ll never forget and hopefully I can take that into more TV work in the future.”

Murs – who found fame on The X Factor in 2009 – said he quit as host because juggling the show and his new album would have been too “difficult”.

He said: “To do my new album and promote it as well as doing The X Factor would have been too difficult. I’ve still got a deal with Sony for another three albums.”

Caroline Flack - who co-hosted the 2015 series with Murs - was this week forced to deny reports that his departure had put a temporary end to their friendship.
