Much ado about nothingness

Though quite disparate, the six young photographers in this exhibition could each be said to represent a return to the low-key in photography.

Stephen Gill makes a virtue out of the blandly quotidian. Working in a 'pure documentary' style, he removes all traces of authorship from his work.

As his series goes by the title of Invisible, this approach seems entirely apt, although Gill is referring to the invisibility of his subjects - the railway and construction workers we encounter almost daily but fail to register - rather than himself.

The urban experience is rendered into an attractive collage of advertising images from Brandon Lattu. He has constructed his images from dozens of negatives featuring brand names and packaging labels against a flat, black backdrop.

Taking these images out of context, our concentration is drawn instead towards their purely formal qualities. Both repetition and authorship are explored in Idris Khan's images. Khan photographs works of art and presents them as delicate, multi-layered images, such as his reproductions of the iconic photographs of Bernd and Hilla Becher.

Bettina von Zwehl's work featured recently in her own show at the Photographers' Gallery. Once again, her portraits of young women engaged in listening to music explores the question of who ultimately controls the image in portraiture.

Florian Maier-Aichen presents aerial, postcard-style shots of magnificent landscapes, while Dan Holdsworth goes in for the close-up with abstract-looking photographs of acoustic test chambers, unfamiliar environments rendered yet more disorientating.
